As Hurricane Matthew tore through the small island of Haiti, all that was left was the debris from once standing buildings, houses, crops, towns, and more. The category 4 Hurricane has left an estimated $2.25 million dollars worth of damage, and there is a staggering death toll of 1,000 people which is increasing every day. There is an estimated 1.4 million Haitians in need of urgent assistance. Epidemics such as Cholera and Malaria has spread throughout the island. Unfortunately, not much can be done to stop these cases of Malaria and Cholera from worsening, because many treatment centers were destroyed in the midst of the Hurricane. Other countries and organizations such as the U.S. military and the UN's World Food Program are donating food, water, and medical supplies to help stop the spread of Cholera and Malaria.
